The Steinhart was built in 1910 by banker, entrepreneur, benefactor to San Francisco's Steinhart Aquarium in Golden Gate Park, and resident of the Steinhart from 1910 to 1917, Ignatz Steinhart(1836-1910). Today, the Steinhart retains its historic turn-of-the-century character while offering modern conveniences. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The public area of the building has recently been renovated by William Soefield of New York's Studio Soefield, giving the Steinhart a completely refreshed look by combining its original design with modern material to create comfortable and elegant atmosphere.
